Alexander Reelsen is husband, father, and a 40-something living in Emsdetten, Germany. A fan of working distributed — he's been doing it for more than 9 years now. He worked at Elastic from 2013 to 2022 as part of the Elasticsearch Core Team and Developer Relations.

He's interested in all things scale, modern web development, information retrieval, metrics, and DevOps. He programs mainly in Java, enjoys Kotlin and Crystal for hacking, and has a passion for conferences and meetups — having organized the first developer-only unconference in Munich as well as running the Search Meetup Munich.

He also wrote the Play framework cookbook and studied information systems (economics and informatics), helping develop touristic booking engines, campaign management systems, multi-tenant ecommerce platforms, distributed search engines, and data warehouses.

When he's not coding, he probably enjoys hiking or sipping a fine Belgian Duvel beer.
